Personally, this would be a good option for me. I've bolted on just about everything possible to the engine, am waaay outside of any conflicting warranty stuff, so this might be a good way to free up some more oomph.

You need to add a supplemental ECU that is programmable first, the Toyota ECU is so far still unhacked. Depending on the class you are building for you can go full standalone, or have a plug and play setup built. The AEM EMS 2 will give you control of the VVTi.
