The mechanic could be correct. If the diagnostic tester is indicating an error code for the turbine speed sensor, that would make sense.

The turbine speed sensor is located on top of the transmission, next to the gear driven speed sensor. If the two sensor's data does not agree, then the computer will report an error and will have issues with shifting.
