no warranty is really worth it, but you hear insane good things about carmax's warranty, and it might be a good idea to search about it and see what random people on the net say.

Have you checked out cargurus to see if you can get a better deal than what you're getting? And as far as the warranty, several experienced people have given you a valuable real-world knowledge. You seem quite certain on your decision, so our opinions and reasoning do not to be of benefit. Good luck.

The water pumps supposedly go out on these cars. If it's a manual you might have to do a clutch which takes some effort to replace so I'm told

Can anyone add more info about the water pump issue? Wasn't this more of a problem with the earlier models?

I was under the impression that the 2009 refresh mostly corrected that issue, among others, that were prevalent with the 2007-2008 Yaris.

Personally, I'm not a fan of any auto warranty that requires you to visit a non-dealership and use low-cost aftermarket parts for the repair instead of OEM. Also, CarMax sells some nice used cars but they are usually priced at or over the highest range for KBB "Certified Used Car Prices".

My wp went on my 2009 at 25k miles.

Checking for red coolant splashes on the underside of the hood is part of my service program!

Also the oil pressure switch failed at 30k miles and resulted in a major oil leak that caused the oil light to go on. $175 to repair at T but customer service sent me a check for $100.

All is well now at 40k miles.

I'm not aware of this...possibly because I never concerned myself with water pump issues because the watger pump never went out on my 2007 . Could you be thinking about the alternator? The 2007 Yaris (and some 2008s ?) had a faulty voltage regulator (which is inside the alternator in a Yaris).....suffered from corrosion?....IIRC, and it is my understanding this was corrected by 2009. The alternator on my 2007 conked out at just over 159,000 miles, and a re-manufactured OEM one that replaced it in 2010 is still in the car.
