Yaris Around The USA 2010

I live in NJ but in 2010 drove around the country.

The first one is in Montana and the second one on I70 in Indiana.

I've always wanted to do this but never had the time. The longest road trip I've done was to Texas and back from NYC, with a couple of side trips along the way. I've done that several times but no Yaris was involved in any of them. Going to have to wait until retirement before I can do my grand tour of the USA. Hopefully my Yaris (and me) will still be around for that one.

Just put the rear seatback flat. I have a pic somewhere of the rear as I loaded it.

Yes supremely comfortable the entire time!

Philly to Colorado Springs via I70 and back roads across Kansas and CO.

Back roads across CO to Monument Valley.

cont later.

Crossing the desert of eastern Colorado. Pikes Peak may be just seen in the distance, directly in line with the road.

Taken from the top of Pikes Peak. The road you see in the picture was the one I crossed eastern Colorado on and took the above picture from.

Two pictures from the top of Pikes Peak. The people in the van are preparing to descend PP by bicycle. Given the steepness of the road this borders on the insane! You must brake constantly on the way down. There are NO guardrails! Lose your brakes and over the edge you go!

In a car you must shift into 2 to hold the car back. If you tried to descend in D you would easily burn the brakes out. About 1/3 the way down is a infrared camera pointed at your wheels, like of like a radar speed sign. If your brakes are too hot it warns you to pull over and let them cool.
