Usb/Samsung S6

Hi all.

New to the forum so I apologise if this has been asked. I have a 2012 Yaris and a Samsung S6 and on my old phone(Samsung s4) I could connect my usb cable and play my music through the radio. However on my new phone it always says usb error. I've tried a couple of different cables but it still doesn't work.

Any ideas as to why?

Watch the screen on your phone when you plug it in. It will most likely show a notification along the lines of "Connected as a Media Device".
The radio only knows how to read "Mass Storage" devices. On the S4 you could tap on the notification and change the connection mode to Mass Storage. The radio can then read and play your music files.

On my Australian 2012 Yaris, I can play the music files on my Samsung phone via Bluetooth. Is that an option for your Yaris?

Pity, the Australian version has a USB socket on the front panel of the radio, as well as a 3.5mm stereo input socket.

The USB socket is claimed to be able to control an iPod/iPhone, or play back MP3 files from a USB thumb drive. The 3.5 mm socket only appears as a selectable source if a cable is plugged in to it.

The USB socket doesn't fare so well at charging my S4 mini. It's barely able to maintain the charge level with the screen on. The S6 with its USB3 cable is quite possibly beyond the power limit for the radio. I use an adaptor in the lighter socket if I need to charge my phone in the car.
