Question Potentially really stupid question - switching from 15-16" rims

So I currently have stock 15" alloy rims and am on the cusp of needing new tires.. so I'm considering switching to some black 16" Enkei RPF1s. I've been really happy with my Pirelli P4s and have managed over 100,000-110,00 miles on at least two occasions.

The Pirelli's I have now are 195/65r15 and tirerack shows the diameter as 24.9"... tirerack shows the P205/55R16 P4 as being 25.1".

Am I crazy or would those tires essentially fit exactly the same or are tire height and diameter two different things I'm convoluting. It reasons if it's round a close diameter will indicate a close height.

I'm attempting to go up a size with rims and tires and hold off on any sort of suspension work for now without the car looking like a 4x4 or having some crazy gap between the fenders and the tires.

Current size tire "65" for the 15" is a relatively taller "sidewall" tire, larger in diameter.
The one you're looking at, "55" for 16" has less "sidewall", but since it's for a 16" wheel,
overall size will be similar to the current ones you have.

Ok so there's not some other factor I'm missing here...

https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc

original size is 185 60 15 so one should stay close to that size and no more than 3% difference .

go to link and see how tire size changes i would say 205 50 16 or 195 55 16 should work .

you'll want 205-50-16

the "50" is height of the sidewall as a percentage of the width - - the width is in millimeters

I think 55 is the shortest side wall they offer on the 16"P4.

Sounds to me like you purposely want to run oversized tires in order to close up the wheel gap rather than achieving gap closure via lowering. Correct?

The responses here are guiding you toward what is the optimal tire size in order to stay close to OEM spec for overall diameter rather than will these oversized 205/55/16 tires still fit.

Anything that meets those specs that's high mileage? I'm open to suggestions... trying to get a balance between the wheels in the size I want and something that I can effectively commute 150 miles a day round trip with. I think the P7 comes in all the same sizes - so that rules out Pirelli.

Well... 205/55/16's on RPF1's (16x7, ET43) will fit your car. They are tall, but if you are happy with the current 195/65/15's @ 25", then I assume you'll be satisfied with 205/55/16's @ 24.9".

Not in this country. Going broader, I think the only person in North America who spells tyre is kimona.
