Just found metal Shavings in oil at 82k miles
I bought my 2008 HB 1.5 years ago with 65k miles. When I bought it I immediately changed the oil to mobil 1 extended 5w30 while using Toyota filters. I have been changing myself ~every 5k miles.
3k miles ago I was in a pinch on a long road trip and got it changed at a quick oil change place. They wanted $100 for synthetic which was outrageous so I decided to be a cheap ass and just pay $50 for their mobil High Mileage dino oil. I put 3k miles on it since Christmas, mostly highway. The majority of the driving was probably 75-80 mph which is way more than the car is accustomed to. The thing has been running like a champ as far as I could tell. I changed the oil today (82k miles) and it wasn't sparkly, but when I poured the drip pan out I noticed a few shavings in there at the bottom. Like 6 or 7 shavings that were maybe 1/4" long. Is this a cause for concern? How bad is it that I changed to synthetic, to dino, then back to synthetic? I've read that it is fine to do it, I've also read that it is not fine. |
