installed a new motor which resolved the problem. Purchased the brand new motor for only $46.09 from Ebay, no taxes and free shipping. What a deal. They assured it was a brand new motor, not refurbished, and it worked perfectly.
This Youtube video was invaluable, the Yaris setup is the same. Be sure to get the metal flap straight (attaches to motor main screw) when finalizing the install. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GJYRwQeQwI&t=621s
