The MAF sensor went bad on my sons 2000 ECHO at around 160k miles and 11 years. Same part as on your Yaris.
Im not sure that qualifies as a "problem" though. I think CR identifies the MAF sensor as something that fails on these cars though.

Just being curious, do you know how often he cleaned it? I clean my MAF sensor whenever I change the oil since it only takes 5 minutes. Just wondering if this will, along with maintaining performance, if it will increase longevity of the part.
