Does the 2013 include a readout for average miles per hour per tank? Reset that and the average mpg indicators each refill. There is a VERY strong correlation between your average speed and your mpg. BTW in terms of distance, my typical daily drive is 1/8 of a mile to the freeway offramp, 20 miles on the freeway at 70mph, then 1/8 mile to a burger joint. Based on that drive my average speed is still only about 22 mph - it's (1) amazing how even an incredibly short scoot to the offramp can drop down freeway speeds (and hence mileage) and its (2) amazing how much gas is used in short drives due to the amount of gas used to start and warm up cold motor.

In other words, urban driving is pretty much a 20mpg thing (and Consumer Reports confirms this in their city cycle test of the Yaris).

Then, on the other hand, I got 40mpg on a 410 mile round trip to Yosemite on a VW Jetta 2.0L, 43mpg on a Toyota iA (the rebadged Mazda2) and an amazing 53mpg on a Chevy Spark 1.4 manual transmission.

So it probably isn't your driving, or your car, it's your trips.

You can confirm this to yourself on your next mid-length freeway trip - light traffic, 65-70mph - just reset the average mpg meter on the dash board and check the mileage just before getting off the freeway, you'll be amazed.

Also, run "clean" gas - this amazing AAA study confirms MUCH cleaner intake valves, combustion chamber, etc., using Top Tier rated gasoline vs. ordinary gasoline.

Anyways when I bought the car I notice the avg l/100km was at 9.5(roughly 25-26 mpg I believe). They did so mostly city driving though. When I filled the tank I also notice it saying only 390km to empty... has anyone else experienced this?? It seems terribly low to me. From the short browsing I've done on on some forums it seems as the the common low mpg is 30-32mpg. Does my mpg seem normal? I do 90% city and I drive quite slow(since I got used to trying to save money on gas in my big truck).

Anyone have any recommendations ?

Sorry no. You get the average speed for your current trip since the engine was last started.
