gearbox oil - 75W80 instead of 75W90?
Hi folks,
my manual gearbox (Yaris 2007) contains 75W90 GL4 and AFAIK this is the right oil for this car. However, I can see that some guy on youtube compared a few oils and found out that 75W80 works much better, check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuR4jozMqew What do you think, is it OK to give it a try without a risk of damaging the gearbox? |

I can actually see that lot of oil manufacturers recommend 75W80 instead of 75W90. I will get two litres from ELF and will report back my findings.

OK so I poured out the old Valvoline 75W90 (it looked still good but it was expected after just some 26000 km of service) and poured in Elf Tranself NFJ 75W80 (2 litres for 16 USD here). This is exactly the oil that Elf recommends for this car. After driving some 50km I must say that the shifting indeed is smoother and easier comparing to the Valvoline 75W90 and even to the Mobil1 75W90 that was there before the Valvoline.
Now I just need to change the clutch. The shops around want 500 USD for that which I guess is quite a lot of money for 11 years old car. |
