I would first like to thank you for this tutorial and offer an alternative as well. I bought the base for the relay as well and avoided splicing any wiring. I simply jumped pins 6-7 with a short length of wire and made all other connections by simply cutting and stripping the cars wires and connecting to the proper terminals. I did still use the tap connector for signal from the ignition though.
