Basic knowledge of economics will prove that this does not work.
It is similar to the idea to "let's all boycott gas company A and only use gas company B, therefore A will have to lower price and B will follow suit, etc".

C'mon CC, I thought you were a college student?

Ive seen this on several forums,xbox360,rcmods,and several other places, and from many people. If this works it would be a statement, but more gas would get sold in the days leading upto, and the day after.
I think the smart people will buy gas that day, only because there should be less people, law of monkey hear, monkey do.

I love this thread already. Posted it before work and its already on page 2.

You're right John, I am a college student. I know there is no economic purpose to a one-day gas boycott. The idea is that there is a large contingent of people standing up together and saying "Hey, this gas thing sucks." Just letting them know we're not completely oblivious, you know? A good friend e-mailed this to me and he doesn't e-mail anything, so I figured it was legit. A quick search online showed it everywhere. I thought... what better place to put it?

BailOut, if you post anything in this thread I'll smack you. I left the soap box in the gas economy thread. Go fetch!

Maybe a better idea is to boycott a certain gas station or something...

The only thing that would happen on the 15th is that the barrell would get stock piled (maybe) just to be used in the days following, this is if no one fills up the day before.

THIS IS IN NO WAY DIRECTED TO MEMBERS OF THIS BOARD--
MY OWN PERSONAL COMMENTARY.

It's bullshit.

If you don't like it, take the friggin bus! I live in L.A. where the Metro sucks balls. No way. If gas were to go up to 5 dollars a gallon, I would happily pay.

I'm not a fan of the piss filled bus. I played that game for 20 years of my life. I'll enjoy the rest of it driving.

everyone trys something like this every year..... never happens.... EVER... so why try.... gas is $3.20 a gallon here in Ohio, ain't a thing I can do to change that, and that is why I bought my Yaris, so I can continue driving like an ass, balls to the wall all day and still get over 30mpg and not care about the gas prices, so maybe I don't rev it up as much for the ricer kids trying to race me when gas gets up there, but that is about it

The only thing that does is hurt that particular owner & their employees of said gas station. The people that make these decisions don't notice a thing in that scenario.

Another point to make is this: if for some incredibly strange reason the oil companies did lose some cash over this boycott (which they won't), you know good and well they'll just stop production for a day to cut back the supply. They've done it over and over again. Any time they feel the price is lower than what they want it to be, all they have to do is give their guys a day off. Sometimes they give an excuse (maintenances, mechanical failure, etc.), but most of the time there's no good reason other than supply control.

Until the demand is permanently reduced, you might as well grab another bottle of K-Y and assume the position.

You know, you would think that the government would put a regulation on such a necessary resource.

Until we move to electric cars or some other fuel (like hydrogen cars that only have a 1 in 100 chance of blowing up while you're driving them!!!), China pretty much assures there won't be any less of a demand and it will only continue to rise as the country develops. Even if everyone started buying more fuel efficient cars, the sheer number of people that will start needing gas in the next 20 years won't do much to curve the demand.
