Parking on hills in a manual

Yeas ago, before automatics became mainstream, it was standard practice when parking on a hill to turn the steering all the way, one way the another, so the front tire was aimed at the curb.
This was for if the car stared to roll for wherever reason bake failure, slipping out of gear, the tire would hit the curb and stop.

I still do this with my manual Yaris and all the other manual cars that I have owned .
