Thanks for the replies. I found myself with some free time and good weather today.
The carrier (tray) was easier to repair than I expected. Removal requires prying off all the plastic wire clips and 4-5 bolts. The threaded stud for the rear battery hold down point was only held in with two plug welds. I ended up grinding them out and welding in a piece of all thread. A coat of spray paint later and its good as new. I used the same material to make a new J bolt for the front (because I am cheap). Saved $70-80 over a junk yard, but it was still the longest I ever took to swap a battery. |
