i was under the impression these cant just be "clamped" as they have a "threadout" attached to the Ebrake mech and you have to thread it back in for a full reset

That is correct. No simple c-clamp compression with those puppies.
Tools are cheap enough to buy. Better yet, maybe some of your automotive supply stores have a loan-a-tool program. Needle nose pliers will work but may involve some colourful language in your part.

My apologies. I've never actually done the brakes on my Yaris. The C-clamp method has worked on everything else I've worked on so it was my default option. Please ignore my advice.
