Toyota Yaris or Scion TC or Toyota Celica as a Daily Driver?
Greeting Yaris World. I used to own a 07 Yaris but I sold it 3 years ago. I am looking to buy a DD that would eventually go towards my oldest daughter. My options are as shown below:
2012 - 16 Toyota Yaris 2008 - 16 Scion TC 2001 - 05 Toyota Celica (if I can find with a clear title) Also I want a manual transmission I want something economical, reliable and easy on maintenance. I had a yaris so I know that would be the top choice when it comes to this. However I wouldn't mind a little bit of sporty and fun of the TC but the way it is geared, the gas mileage wouldn't be as good as comparable compact cars. Also the TC comes with large wheels whch becomes impractical for a teen or young adult. I've always wanted a Celica but I know I'll have to practically rebuild from the engine and transmission to achieve the reliability I am seeking. I know this is a Yaris forum but I want honest opinions. Please give me yall thoughts.

to be fair, the tc is the smart choice..between toyota working out all the kinks and it sharing more with more cars than the yairs, means cheeper more plentiful parts
while i love the yaris..the tc is a solid ride...honestly id also look at either gen XB and XD as an even better option and more "yaris like"..the XD is basicly a sportier yaris and the gen1 xb is a box on a yaris chassis...the second gen xb is a bit of rolla and a bit of yaris having both gen1 and gen2 xb.s i can say they compare very well to the yaris...the XD imo is the "sweet spot" tho |

You say that this vehicle will eventually go to your oldest daughter. What is the timeline for this to happen? When it does, is it truly then her car, not really yours anymore?
As a father of a young lady who not so long ago underwent this transition to adulthood, my thoughts would be decision should be based on her anticipated needs, likes, and what you are comfortable releasing her upon the world in. Not contingent on something you've always kind of wanted. Outside of those thoughts, I'm with the consideration of the xD as an option.

get an XD or XB then..solid aftermarket, fun, and probably the most usefull for her later, the gen2 XBs are lil hotrods like the XD is but even more so, while sharing a ton of chassis stuff with our lil yaris, the xb1 is a ECHO with a toaster body

Two-door Yaris hatchback with a manual transmission is the most practical car made. With the rear seats down it’s almost like a mini pick up truck.

imo if were comparing yaris to yaris..the 5dr is considerably more practical as you can seat 5 without anyone getting out of the way.....and with the seat down you can acess cargo space via a side door....makes a great delivery rig in this mode
but if we compare a yaris to an xb..xb wins hands down |
