How many miles on the clock?
My rear drums after 140,000 miles have still enough brakepad material to go.
I would not be worried about 500 miles - 70 per cent of braking balance is on front brakes anyway.

I have just over 200k miles. I’ve needed them replaced before. Just want to make sure shoes aren’t like disc brakes where letting the pads go can ruin the rotor/caliper. Thanks for the info.
