My experience of several cheap replacements:-
First one ran on Windows CE. It eventually died after 6 years. Second unit was Android. Radio was FM only, with poor reception. Lost its maps during a routine car service and could not reload them. Third unit is also Android. It has better but still not good FM only radio. I am using paid GPS navigation software which I already had on my phone, so no additional cost. I also added a USB DAB+ receiver using the DAB-Z app to run it with an on glass antenna. All of these purported to be "direct plug in replacement" to the original wiring harness, but needed changes to the wiring for the steering wheel controls to work. This is possibly not a problem for the 2009 Yaris? I can play music files loaded into the unit or on a USB drive. Both of the Android units support wired Apple Car Play and Android Auto. All support hands-free mobile calls, but I recommend adding a microphone, as they all had their inbuilt microphone set up for the left hand drive markets. Still using the factory speakers.

What did you have to rewire for the SWC?

Android 15 Tablet Double Din Radio
Here’s the one I got …. https://ebay.us/m/XBFJW3
It’s the 7 inch radio, which is supposed to fit into the original radio frame. The bigger one seemed to block the middle vents Love having the Apple CarPlay running android 15 so it seems pretty quick for now having it for a week. The display is a little bit washed, and the sharpness is not the best but for the money can’t beat it. This one did not come with a back up camera. Install- the wiring is pretty much plug-in. Play… might need some soldering heat crimps depending on having a sub or additional speakers. you will have to modify the factory bracket and bend it back about half an inch at the nipples closer to radio face and also shave off (I used a knife but dremal is smarter) some of the lower vent trim mounting points for the frame to fit. Only bolted the top 2 and left the bottom 2 bolts for radio bracket off but still feels solid when pressing the radio |
