Why is it that some 75+ mph drivers claim to get better fuel economy such as 38 to 40 mpg compared to others who really try to get the great mileage and don't get better than 30 mpg?
Other than variations in driving skills, I am beginning to take the bragging statements of faster drivers with a grain of salt.

I do steady 65 on a nice flat Interstate Highway during my 50 mile work commute and have averaged 40+ since driving off the dealer lot. I can't imagine higher speeds yield better mileage unless they are off a cliff. If I am wrong then I apologize in advance!!!!!!!!!

Most of my driving is a hilly and curvy rural highway commute, usually between 50 and 60 mph, mixed with small town 30-45, with almost never any stop and go city driving. My worst ever was 37ish mpg and my usual is 40-41, best a little over 42. Knowing about the DFCO has helped a bit. My S Sedan has a manual.

I rented a Yaris for a week just to kind of check out the mileage. It was the sedan with an automatic and hadn't had its first oil change yet. At 70mph, the little car got 41.2 mpg with air-conditioner and 42.4 mpg without.

I think I'm going to buy that car.
