thats a good question. there arent enough modded sedans to have its own full category id say so it should probably be combined

combined for sure.

just pic abunch of cars that you think should be featured; then randomly draw a number and write something up on that car for the month. unless you had specific ones you wanted to start with.

combined. I don't even think there should be voting (gets political sometimes), just handle it and feature a car you like every month, with a write up or mod list, or whatever. I'm sure we'll all enjoy the thread.

yeah, the voting process may get a lil complicated...i think just featuring a member's car with list of mods and lots of pics of it would be the best idea too.

Heres the best way to handle it...

NO VOTING, voting only makes it a popularity contest, you can take one person who is an awesome member, contributes and/or innovates something for us (the Yaris community), but they have no crazy mods though to their car...and place them against a person who doesnt contribute much, but has an awesome looking car. Thats when some people lose track of what the whole feature thread is about, and the nice looking car wins over the person who deserves it hands down.

Just feature a person, car, whatever who is a hell of member. Just make sure they are active and capable of contributing to the next section: Then you write them a PM, or email...whichever you may have, or even IM if they have it on their contact info... Try and get some information about the person, where they are from, mod list, motive for buying the car, what the plans are for the car... then do a little writeup on the person, the car, make it a nice little read, nothing huge. Make sure to ask the person for any specific pics they want of their car, or just whatever, lol.

Just post it... if people gripe (someone always will), who cares. Its a personal opinion of someone who just thinks there should be recognition for someone who is an "over acheiver" on a forum.

Just my .02c

Some ideas:

- Combine LB and Sedan. No discrimination

- develop a questionnaire (Year you bought your car, mods - or not , why did you get a Yaris, what did you own before, then, a technical section or whatever.... ) Everybody could contribute ideas to developping the questionnaire but some members are going to have to take charge for organizing the thread and eventually decide what goes on the questionnaire and when it is ready. When it's ready, then sticky it some place.

- Once the questionnaire is agreed upon and stickied where everybody can see it, then, have forum members copy and paste it and submit it back with answers and pix of their cars (again, someone is going to have to decide which Yaris gets featured) .

I hate to say it but IMO this kind of project does need moderation and a minimum of administration Maybe some trusted members (volunteers?) can help the mods with the legwork (reviewing all the Yarii and submitting the 10 best ones?) but ultimately someone with admin privileges will have to make some decisions.

I don't know, I'm still brainstorming about how to implement something like that, but those are preliminary ideas you all can work with, I hope.

I've seen "member of the month" in a different forum before. We got a questionnaire to fill out (a forum admin would send it since they have our email address) and we had to email it back (if we agreed to be featured, of course) with a small picture. The questionnaire was in Word, but it could also be a cut and paste.

Anyway, hope that helps, use what you can.

Oka so i guess ill just start this up and have a Mod sticky it..So the YOTM will be at the end of Each month, Voting will begin 7 days prior to the Month ending so that gives everyone a week to vote and the whole month for them to check the cars out, the submissions must be posted up the General Section in the YOTM thread within 2 weeks of the thread being created! It will be combined LB/Sedan, Voting will end at Midnight on the last day of the Month! We will start it Off with October YOTM! A Poll will be put up, everyone will cast their vote. Here is what each submission will need.

First of all you need to submit 5 pics
They can be all exterior if you want, would prefer if you mixed it up
Interior/exterior/engine bay
Shots cant be in a driveway, people look at how good your photos are so remember that! It doesnt matter how many mods you have if you are great at shooting photos! Must be in the order below!

Name:
Year/Make/Model:
Location:
Exterior Mods:
Interior Mods:
Suspension:
Engine:
Future Plans:
Why/When You Bought Your Yaris:

I ran the whole thing, with help from the moderators.

The process originally started as a photo contest, we simply had people submit their photos of their cars in a designated thread... Then I would contact the moderators on the site to vote for whom they thought had the best photo for the month. This became the general structure, it really didnt become a popularity thing, just whoever could submit an awesome pic. Then I contacted the winner, tried to get some extra pics of the car. Then did a thread on it, announcing the winner and a little bit about their car and who the member was behind it.

Then we tried to change it up a little bit, because people were griping there was no community interaction with the process, in other words...the people screamed Democracy and we tried to deliver... So it changed to where we started to submit a member who they thought should be awarded with the honors as "Yaris/Member of the Month"...after reviewing the people, It was chosen between a couple persons/cars, and they were put into a poll to be voted on...Once again, problems arose and it became a big popularity contest.

When the hack wiped it out, it was long forgotten and no one really asked any questions to where it went or why didnt we have it. Soooo. It became forgotten until this thread.

I for one would be willing to try and help with the whole process if asked. Since I have done it before.

^ you should probably take a poll about whether or not members will be voting. It looks like a number of people were against it.

It might work out better if the Yarii were simply nominated

Just my 2 c though ;)

Hmmm. yeah, I see your point. Sometimes, democracy can bring dissent ;)

The structure sounds good (having some members do the leg work, then the mods look over their shoulder, sticky what needs to be stickied, lock whatever needs to be locked, you know, business as usual ;) but administering the YOTM thread is probably gonna be a handful. You can only have 12 winners per year, and that's gonna leave a lot of ruffled feather out there, hmmmm.... IDK what to tell you.

As for getting the Admins involved...

YarisBueller and Vitzboy are rare and few to log on and actually make changes or even work on the site. So 99% of the work will need to be done by the Mod team, and to what tools they are limited to. Even to make a devoted section completely for this project will require the admins to log in and make a change. Unless they have allocated more power to the mods post-hack.

A dedicated section would be real cool!!!

I don't want to bring up a sore subject, though, I know that the site admins aren't present so pretty much the mods' hands are tied.

Maybe we can have a YOTM anyway. I think the most problematic question is how the selection is going to be done. That is where I see the most protential ruffled feathers It's another one of these "doomed if you do and doomed if you don't" thing...
