Well, it's raining today, so no sightseeing for Bamboo and me. But! We did swing out to East End Brewing to fill up a growler.

Bamboo was pretty happy about all the types of beers they make.


His favorite was the Monkey Girl Dunkelweizen though, so we got a growler of that.

well as it turns out, having the little guy make a detour to see darb first works out for me... because of the weather, the dragstrip does not open for two more weeks...

Bamboo and I decided to take advantage of the nice weather today to go out to Pitt Campus to check out the Cathedral of Learning. Before we went into the Cathedral, Bamboo took at look at Heinz Chapel, which lies on the Cathedral grounds. The chapel is a non-denominational church that can be used by Pitt students/staff/faculty for various occasions, including weddings, funerals, baptisms...







Since it was a bit cloudy out when we got there, we decided to go into the Cathedral to check out the main hall and some of the nationality rooms.

When we got to the main hall Bamboo could not stop talking about how much the building reminded him of the Harry Potter books. He felt like he was right inside Hogwarts!





Many of the nationality rooms were closed, but we managed to check out a couple. These are functional classrooms in the Cathedral that were designed and donated to the school by various countries and their students that attend Pitt.

First up was the Austrian Room.



We also managed to look at the Indian Room, too.





Bamboo really wanted to go to the very top, so we hopped an elevator to the 36th floor and took a look out of one of the windows.

Here's Bamboo with the view overlooking Schenley Park and Phipps Conservatory to the right. I promised him we'd go there later this week.



Here's the view from the same window overlooking Carnegie Mellon University.



We then headed downstairs to find that the weather had cleared up a bit, Bamboo wanted me to take a picture of him in front of the Cathedral. He was certain that this was the tallest educational structure in the western hemisphere that he's ever seen!



We then walked around a bit and saw the Allegheny County Soldiers Memorial.



He really liked the cannon.



Finally, we went to see the statue of the Pitt Panther. Bamboo thought it looked really cool!

Decided to swing by Phipps Conservatory with Bamboo for a little bit today. We didn't go inside, but we did walk around the grounds a bit.







As you can see, the Cathedral dominates most of the skyline around here.



While we were out, we also got Bamboo a new pin to add to his collection.

*sigh* Maybe one of these days I'll get to view the most recent pics of our lil Panda... When viewing on my work PC, I get the lil box with an X. When I tried to view at home the other day, I got the error that the database for the site was down...

Oh well, I'm sure they're good!

Probably if I wasn't at work I'd be able to view it. They have a lot of sites blocked. I can't even get to my own smugmug page to view my photos I have there.

Heck, they have Google Documents blocked??!!??!!

I'll see if I can check it out tonight at the hotel... Going away for the weekend! Yay!
