I just canceled my extended warranty today. The dealer charged $1900 for 6 years/100,000 miles - AFTER I told him I didn't want any extras. Somehow in the confusion of the purchase (I had limited time for paperwork because I had to be at a meeting that afternoon) I didn't notice that he added it back in. Got a packet in the mail last week, checked my paperwork from the dealership and nearly hit the roof. I can get the same warranty for under $700 from a different dealership, and they told me I've got until the 3/36,000 warranty is up to make the purchase.

I called the dealership where I bought the car and complained, and I made sure that Toyota made a note of it when I called to cancel. There is nothing I despise more than being misled.

Good point! The basic warrantee on my Dodge Diesel Ram ended last year. I was flooded with all kinds of extended offers. Some from Dodge but most from outside companies. By phone or mail I was getting 2 offers a week. At the end of 3 years you should know if you are keeping the car and have a feel for maintenance issues. I told the salesman that I was self insured. If it breaks, I’ll fix it.

long story short.. we had a vote here it ended 20 said get your money back and like 9(i think it was 9?) said keep it you could need it
)

Yah, same as my thread, I think, something like 30 to 5, the majority saying "don't get it."

I was offered the same thing exactly under the Certified program and was given 1 week to decide. So I came and put the question to the forum and the members convinced me to go without.

Here is the thread.

off-topic:

I have a 2005 Prius. Been completely reliable for 70,000 miles so far. No issues at all, one of the reasons I'm a Toyota customer.

If you think the lithium battery goes into some landfill, think again. That is valuable stuff -- it is recycled for money.

And, I'd probably buy one if I bought a hybrid. I still don't trust the technology.

yeah for sure with the hybrid. they seem to have issues.. and any issue is not cheap.

i have worries about when the hybrids get junked.. isnt there like 80lbs of lithuim in them or something.. not the best thing for the environment
