CTScott had a posting on his facebook saying he was dying to open his daughter's iPad that had just came in. I thought it was pretty amusing.

After playing with hers last night side by side with my first gen, I am mighty tempted to upgrade. I never considered the 1st gen to be in the least bit slow, but the 2nd gen's speed is noticeably faster. Even things like installing apps from the app store on the device seem to be exponentially faster (and I would have thought that they were throttled by internet speed as opposed to processor speed). For example, loading Netflix on hers took less than 2 seconds, whereas on my 1st gen it took about 10 seconds. The weight and thickness differences are significant as well.

As soon as the untethered jailbreak is released for iOS 4.3, I may have to go for it...

I couldn't really justify spending an additional 4-500 dollars just because a program takes an additonal 8 seconds to load.

Ipad looks really sweet and wouldn't mind getting one but I guess for the money, I'd rather spend a bit more and actually get a macbook. Btw guys, microcenter is selling the 13" macbook pro duo core for $899 brand new. They are making room for the new intel 13"ers.

If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

Hmmmm.... I guess it's time I head out to the Apple store and see for myself ;)

I've already told myself I'm not getting one, though. My next upgrade is a computer, not another iPad. But still.... nothing wrong with playing with one just to see ;)

Hahahaha!!! +1 on the Purell!!! You know I always do... these devices are only as clean as the last 100 people who touched them, no offense ;)

I carry a mini-bottle of Purrel in my backpack because I take public transportation all the time, and if you think the iPad's surfaces have germs on them, you should see the poles in public transit! ;) At least they clean the iPads at night... still, every single time I leave the Apple store, I pull out the Purrell.

Unfortunately, I think Apple has my credit card on file by now.

I've been meaning to get a Mac for a while but I don't know, I'm still split. Win 7 is pretty good! (And I understand my Google docs aren't Mac compatible ) Still... I know I'll be playing with that, too...

I guess it's only a matter of time now before the make the iMac a giant touchscreen, no?

Hey, I just realized that PK's been quiet for a couple of days! I guess he's probably pretty busy playing with his new iPad...

I have a 21" iMac that I bought as a factory refurb from Apple (I think that is the best way to buy any Apple product, as I don't like their quality policy and at least the refurbs have actually been tested). I have it on my desk as a 4th monitor, so to speak, and just use it for iphone/ipad development and on a daily basis as a monitor for my security system. I don't have any apps other than the dev tools on it.

With how Apple does things I would definitely expect the iPad 3, either around Xmas or this time next year. When I bought my 1st gen one I knew the 2 would be out by now, but if I waited, I would have had an empty hand for a year.

It would be nice if Apple had a trade up program for existing customers.

I though about getting the 27", but it wouldn't have fit on my desk with my other three monitors. It really is a beast.

A good thing Apple doesn't have a trade up program!! We'd be in and out of the place every 3 months!

Yeah, I thought about going the refurbished way, too. They have a little bit of everything:

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac

and you get the same warranty as if you bought it new, but you save a couple hundred dollars.

Refurbished computers are just fine, in fact, I haven't bought a new computer in ages, except my laptop, that was ordered new, but the last couple of desktops I had were second hand. I got my current desktop off Craigslist (it's an Optiplex, though and I felt more confident I could swap parts or troubleshoot). Not sure I'd able to troubleshoot anything on a Mac, though.

I will most likely wait until the xoom drops in price. I love Android too much although im not a fanboi of it. ..
*cough * * cough*

(try to sound like Jeff Foxworthy when you read this )

If you have

- an Android t-shirt
- a couple of Android desk buddies
- an "android peeing on apple" sticker on the side of your car
- a couple of Google t-shirts scored at promo events ...
- and if you use various Androids as your avatars on FB, Twitter, etc..

... does that make you a fanboi? hehehe

(+ 1 on waiting for the Xoom to drop. You know it will, and the technology will get better, as well)
