Speed vs rpms
i have a 07 yaris and im finding it confusing to know whats my limit for each gear and i caint find it anywhere. I dont want to redline it i just like to go fast every once and a while. i know 1st is about 19mph i think but 2nd gear doing 40? thats as far as i went and by the 07 models not having a tach really sucks. Does anyone know the maximum speed for each gear?

Red line would be the same for each gear.
Other than that, I not sure what you mean by "limit". Suggested speed limits for each gear are usually just for the best gas mileage. However, even those suggested speed limits depend on road and driving conditions. |

yes but i dont know how fast i can go for each gear. When i said limit i mean how fast can i go in 1st 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th.
Example: 1st gear goes up to 25mph, 2nd gear up to 40mph. Pretty much i want to know whats the max speed for each gear

Again, other than that, what do want to know? I've been driving standards for over 47 years and when you shift any car depends on the driving conditions keepng in mind not to over or under rev the engine. |

I made a spreadsheet for my gearbox modifications to find out the different top end speeds for each gear. I also included a graph that shows the RPM drop between gears--both from 6000 RPM (6500 is the rev limit) and from the RPM that will land on 4000 (the lower limit of the power band is around 4200). The stock gearbox is pretty terrible between 1-2 and 4-5. These charts show the approximate speed that you can shift, either before redline, or to land on the sweet spot. Note that in either case, it's impossible to land on 4k in second gear due to the rev limit.
The first few times you take it up to 6k RPM, it's going to feel like it might explode, but it's still within its "intended" operating range. The way the chart works is: the numbers along the 6000 RPM line are your safe-ish limit. The numbers along the 4000 RPM line are your target shift points to maximize acceleration in the next gear. Stock gearing: To help reduce the RPM drop between 1-2, I'm using the Celica/Yaris RS gears for 1st through 4th and final drive. To make 5th gear less useless, I'm using a Matrix/Vibe/Corolla 5th gear set. My custom gearbox: |

If you want to accelerate fast you should not go to the limit, you should be able to feel it when you drive. If I do a quick start at the stoplights, I don't even look at the tach, you hear and feel it.

I know that the auto tops out at ~170km/h (at an elevation of 3442 ft) :p

i can tell u about automatic, when you shift it yourself by changing the lever.
1st: 60 kph (35mph) 2nd: 100kph (62mph) 3rd: 170 kph ( 105mph) i know when i get to the redline by the weird vibrations that start happening so next time just push your car and wait for the vibrations. I heard it is because the ECU will start cutting the fuel off when you get to 6500 rpms. My sister has an 2000 echo i remember i got these numbers on 1st 36mph and i think i got over 105 on 2nd never tried to top the 3rd or 4th. |

The owner's manual says the max is 31 (1st to 2nd), 59 (2nd to 3rd), 86 (3rd to 4th). It says nothing about 5th.
