Volkswagen introduces world’s most economical car
Volkswagen's AUD655 car uses less than 1 litre per 100 km!
It looks like Ford, Chrysler and GM missed the boat again! This $655 car is not a toy and is ready to be released in China this year. The single seater aero car totes VW (Volkswagen) branding. Volkswagen did a lot of very highly protected testing of this car in Germany, but it was not announced until now where the car would make it's first appearance. The car was introduced at the VW stockholders meeting as the most economical car in the world is presented. The initial objective of the prototype was to prove that 1 liter of fuel could deliver 100 km of travel. Spartan interior doesn't sacrifice safety The aero design proved essential to getting the desired result. The body is 3.47 meters long and just 1.25 meters wide, and a little over a meter high. The prototype was made completely of carbon fiber and is not painted to save weight. The power plant is a one cylinder diesel positioned ahead of the rear axle and combined with an automatic shift controlled by a knob in the interior.. Safety was not compromised as the impact and roll-over protection is comparable to the GT racing cars. $655 USES 0.9 LITRE PER 100 KM This is a single seated car From conception to production: 3 years and the company is headquartered in Hamburg , Germany. It will be selling for 4000 yuan, equivalent to US$600 or AU$655 Gas tank capacity = 6.4 litres Speed = 120 km Fuel efficiency = .9 litre per 100 km Travel distance with a full tank = 700 km On sale this year

For $655, i think it'll be quite popular. I'd prolly get it since it would pay for itself with all the savings on gas

^ I'm with you on that. So long as it has at least a little trunk space or storage space so I can put groceries in there.

I google it (Volkswagen's AUD655) but I can't find any links for more information.
Thanks D.

I don't know where the 650 dollar price tag came from - Everything in the car was made out of lightweight carbon-fiber or magnesium, gears were hollowed, and bolts were made from titanium. |

I can imagine it selling in big cities as a grocery getter etc, but the single seat is a draw back.
IMO, it woud be better (and more pactical) with a rear seat behind the driver like an aircraft would have. I wonder if it even passes US saftey standards. Anyway, I also seriously doubt if it will sell anywhere near as low as $655. |

For that price, I wouldn't mind shipping one or two to this side of the pond...
Plus 120 km/hr is quite fast for something that small. I want one.

Not likely it will pass US safety standards. It reminds me a lot of the Messerschmitt KR200...
Used to see these on occasion when I was a kid in Germany back in the 1960s and early 1970s. Not so much anymore... Cheers! M2

I remember this car from about eight years ago. The guy at the wheel is Ferdinand Piech (not sure of the spelling). The car was created as a demonstration of what can be done and was driven to the VW shareholders' meeting by the then-chairman of VW.
I have my doubts about the veracity of this car going on sale. When one considers China's "safety standards", though, it's plausible that the car is roadworthy over there... EDIT: I found a blurb on this car from a couple of years ago about possible production. It looks like the car may indeed be going into production, but it sure won't cost $650. http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Green-C...litre-eco-car/ Here's a Wikipedia entry for the car: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_1-litre_car
