Thanks. I think I'll pass this on to my sister. She's trying keep it under $17k if she can ...I've mentioned the Yaris, Versa, Accent and Fit to her, but I forgot about the Mazda 2

I drove the 2 and I agree, it drives so well. Couldn't believe how nice the shifter felt.

Great write-up! Having driven the car recently (and having owned a couple of Miatas prior to the Vitz), I agree 100% with your review.

Now I'm really interested in this car... Unfortunately, it seems it won't be sold around these parts for the foreseeable future (I asked earlier today).
![]() The big question is: would you get this instead of your current Yaris had you had the choice back then? ![]() Another thing to consider is the engine's potential for performance mods... 100 hp could become 120-130 pretty inexpensively... Great writeup! ![]()

The MAZDA 2 uses 0w-20 and the oil change would be just as easy as the YARIS . I've been following MAZDA 2 sales in a 90 mile radius and they don't seem to be moving very fast off the dealer lots . Hopefully they'll be giving better discounts in time . The MAZDA dealers that we visited and test drove the 2 at are giving $400 or less for discounts . If they were giving better deals we'd likely be sitting in a 2 . The automatic , since it would be her car . I prefer the 5 speed manual .

Only drove the Mazda 2 stick, and it was truly outstanding compared to the Yaris.
Wonder about the automatic transmission? In the past, Mazda automatics were absolute crap! |

Thanks for the review.
![]() But I'm just not a fan of this car. It may have good driving dynamics, but for me, the positives end there. I base this on a direct and fair comparison to the Ford Fiesta (hatch) on which it shares its chassis. - The Fiesta, IMO, looks far better. Not even close - The Fiesta has significantly more power and yet gets better mileage with the 6 speed auto - The Fiesta, IMO, has a better interior (especially better looking) - The Fiesta has much more options (tech/comfort/convenience) - The Fiesta matches the 2's driving dynamics - The Fiesta is simply a better overall value - more car for the price Seems like sales are very slow so far. I've seen them on sale on dealer lots for about 4-5 months, yet I have yet to see one on the road. I've seen dozens of Fiestas though. |

Although looks are purely subjective, I would say that I agree with you for the most part. Certainly, the automatic on the Fiesta is far superior to the 4AT in the 2. The Feista does have a great interior. The 2, however, felt more basic and sporting, whereas the Fiesta definitely does have more going on.

The 6 speed auto of the FIESTA is having issues already . Seen it at EDMUNDS in the FIESTA forum . Think it has something to do with overheating . We find the 2 to be more accommodating for head / leg room to its passegers in front and rear than both FIESTA models .
