$2009 Grassroots Challenge
http://www.supramania.com/forums/sho...=68665&page=23
Well 3 of my real close friends have been competing in this event for the past 2 years. For anyone that doesn't know the idea of the challenge is to buy car and have it be fast, handle and look good with a budget of $2009 including the price of the car. Sounds tough but still very possible. Well my boys were able to get a nice deal on a early 90's Turbo Supra for somwhere around $850, if i remember right. I driven this car before and i can attest to how fast it is. I started a thread a while ago before the hack. Keep in mind that they are allowed to sell parts off the car to bring their budget down, and a lot of the work was done by them. A lot of man hours went into the car. Check it out at the link above. Here are some pictures of the car. Some are before the paint job, that was earlier this year. They have better pictures on the link to Supramania |

That is a sick Supra. I was gonna mention a turbo kit, but then I remembered what the budget was lol

Trust me the thing is fast, it makes soooo much torque. They did a lot of the work themselves. I felt bad for them towards the end they were really busting their asses to finish it up. 12-14 hours straight of working sometimes. They are thinking about buying 2 more supras and building those. They are making decent power with the stock turbo but i think they may throw a bigger turbo on there. i don't think they are going to use this car to compete again next year

I'm just guessing but probably at least 280whp and close to that for tq. They ran a 14.0 in the quarter mile. They had bad tires on it, i'm guessing with slicks and a good launch they could do low to mid 13's. The budget would allow them to get slicks, if i remember right. When i drove i pulled on BMW 330i, pulled like 5 car lengths on him before he let off. The car is quick, i want my friend to race it with his EVO, i think the EVO will beat it though

Wow Herb, that's looking pretty nice. I was eyeballing a nice white Supra of the same generation while I was sitting in traffic on Friday. Great car.
