Hot key
Is your key hot when you pull it out of the ignition?
I travel quite a bit so I drive lots of different rental cars and I've never noticed a hot key. My Jeep key isn't hot when I pull it out.

A few questions.
Do you have the heater on? Is the key/dash in direct sunlight? Is the ignition warm to touch before you start your car? It could just be one of those three things, just like when you get in on a hot day and the metal on the seat belts is hot like fire!

On my 2007 Yaris the ignition key is sometimes too hot to touch. Does anyone else have this problem?

my key is wrapped in rubber.... it's never felt warm, not even when temps were 106F here last week. I have tinted windows and use a windshield screen (side note).

I've had keys get hot but usually it's because the ignition got really hot in the sun and transferred heat to the key... I haven't noticed it getting hot on normal temp days... I'll have to check it to see

Weird... Hey I've seen some cars (not sure about yari) have lighted ignitions, which might heat up the key...but I cannot imagine why your key would get hot... kinda worrisome...

Yes. Just purchased a 2010 Yaris 4 door sedan. It does not happen on short rides. However, when I drove the car for 2 continuous hours at highway speeds, the ignition key and the metal tumbler that the key inserts into were quite hot. Brought it into the Toyota Service Dept. They said the ignition voltage in my ignition is within specification and that many cars get hot keys and ignition cylinders. I have trouble believing that a hot key is anything but abnormal. I already feel that I have a car that might have a serious problem brewing. Has anyone had a hot key and ignition cylinder lead to a serious problem?

My key is not and has never been (even after 16+ hours of driving) too hot to touch. I live in Georgia where temps regularly hit 95+ in the summer. I use the key without the rubber protector and it's still plenty cool enough to pull out and touch comfortably.
