1ZZ throttle body
hey guys
please explain how the throttle body works better on the yaris ? does it give better power ? if so , i wanna try fitting it to my 1300cc 2NZFE , as so far , all the 1500cc aftermarket parts work on mine. has anybody got good experience in changing it and what differences they have felt ? |

The idea of a larger TB is that it allows greater airflow volume into the intake manifold. This should increase HP slightly. You'll need someone who knows more to tell you what part of the powerband it affects most, though I hear reports of people's butt dyno thelling them the midrange is better.

This mod is good if you can get it to work, i think there are only a hand full of people that have done this sucessfully. I had it on my car, it did help the mid range, but it started throwing CEL's and started oscillating. I had to take it off. If you get it to work great, i just wouldn't mess with it though. Too much trouble for one mod

mine oscillated until i did the throttle body bypass that stopped immediately.did the 1nz chip swap. my stopped throwing cel after 3wks.

In my case it has been a pretty cool mod to DIY. The only real PITA was getting the hose to fit. I swapped the chip and bypassed the coolant line. I've never had any CELs and it's been running strong for at least 5000kms. I do get a high idle (~2.5K) for the first couple of minutes and some oscillation (~500 RPMs) when warm.
The car feels more responsive and it is most noticeable in the mid to high range.

you can rotate the inlet connections on the tb to match the angle of the 1nzfe throttle body

The Yaris throttle only opens to 80% at WOT IIRC, so anything of a larger diameter will be limited as well, although you're increasing the amount of air to the engine regardless.
My 1ZZ TB has been on for over 5,000 miles with no issues. No chip swap, I just let the ECU do it's thang. No CEL either, although I had one initially so it might have gotten tired of displaying it on the cluster. I have a high idle like tk when cold, (2.5K) but it goes away when the engine warms up. |

I had a hell of a time with the mod. Loved the extra power/response but after 2 weeks of messing with it and having horrible issues with oscillation and CEL's having to get my car towed 25 miles after my engine suddenly died and then refused to idle after work I gave up and threw the stock throttle body on.

This is one mod, even though I'll get help from my mechanics on this, still am afraid to mess with. I need my car practically everyday due to school and work.
I'll avoid this till further down the road a easy slip on, slip off solution is worked into this 50/50 worry free modification. |

Just leave the stock TB on, it's too much of a PITA for like 2-3 hp

You're right, it was a simple install, but the issues that come along with this mod aren't worth the mod itself IMO (Oscillation, CEL, No smooth transition into DFCO, and one members car just shut off if remember right) The install time is short, but trying to get it to play nice withthe ECU is another thing. Don't get me wrong thoug, If i could throw this TB on and not have any issues i would have kept it on, but i had the first 3 problems that i mentioned above. So it had to come off, i think there are only a handful of memebers that have done this sucessfully
