fuel capacity
Hello all!
New member, 07 flint mica sedan from an 02 Subaru wrx wagon ( I still miss it ). Looks like a great amount of info around here and I look forward to investigating my new car on this site . Anyway, I just but 11.511 gallons of gas in my sedan . I thought that the Fuel capacity is only 11.1 gallons? I couldn't find a note about a reserve tank in the manual ( didn't look too hard though). So, what exactly is the total fuel capacity for a 2007 yaris sedan? Thanks -M |

Nope, just let it stop all by itself.
I learned this from the subie, as any topping off ended up on the ground! I'm trying to calculate my MPG by gasoline added to tank VS. total tank capacity, and the 11.5 has totally thrown me for a loop. -Mike |

Is it a gas station you always go to? I remember one time seeing a news report on ones that screw with their pumps or the gas to steal money from customers.
Of course, I've also used pumps that are slightly broken and keep shutting off when I know I only have the tank about halfway filled. And yeah, I also have a bad habit of aiming for the nearest .50 |

I use to top off as well. I have taught myself to just stop filling when it clicks off the first time. Makes life a whole lot easier and I believe the 11.1 is based on that first click. Like someone mention earlier its bad for the fuel recovery/vapor system because overfilling will block the fuel return ports. Gas can also retract and expand with heat and cold so it give it more room in the tank.

I didn't top it off, that's wh ythe 11.5 was odd.
Maybe they did rip me off? Maybe the pump didn't stop in time? |

Sounds like the station has maybe ripped you off
I had a station do this to me once. After filling my motorcycle tank with 3.5 gallons my bike only has a 2.8 gallon tank That was a huge difference and very noticable. Had it been 3 gallons I would have never suspected anything but the gas station is still making a killing by gouging even a few cents per liter

There should be a regional contact for the Bureau of weights and measures. Depending on the state, they have regional inspectors who periodically go to gas stations and test the pumps to make sure they are dispensing the volumes they are charging you for. My Uncle is a regional inspector in PA and routinely doles out fines to gas stations who gouge consumers.
IF you honestly believe that's what's happening, I'd try to find a contact at the regional office and sic and inspector on them. |

Let the atorities know so they can at least check it out...
no point in jumpin' the gun, squealin' to the BBB or News until you know for sure they are gouging. Let the proper athorities know you suspect something is up
