Somebody should design an awesome vinyl "ChinoTake" product sticker. That way we could boast our uber intake.

HAH!

Ideally I want to get a vendors license, a tax ID and all that fun stuff and get a real company name and go to town. I have a couple other ideas in the back of my head as far as automobiles go, even when it comes to this car in particular. Problem is I don't have the startup capital, so hey, if you're a venture capitalist PM me. I would especially like to talk to someone who has started a business before and/or is familiar with writing plans and bookkeeping and whatnot. I'm good at conceptualizing and selling the product and building good business relationships. Its the other stuff I suck at.

I will hopefully have a few designs up by the end of the week. ChinoCharles, what are some ideas & names have you thought up of? I can easily get some weatherproof labels made with a variety of stock including clear, matte silver, shiny silver, brushed silver, white & yellow. We have to outsource the labels to a specialty shop, but I can get them at cost. 500 would cost me about $125, half what we would charge our customers...

I've been tossing ideas around. Something sleeper-ish, as we're purposefully making the intake totally unflashy. Any ideas?

It's pretty easy to get a tax ID and register your business name (at least in WA state.) I ran my own computer repair business and it cost $20 to register my business name and be legal to do business. I used quickbooks to handle my bookkeeping, and had the help of a bookkeeper setup my accounts. Do you personally know anyone who is a bookkeeper/accountant? They would be of great help.

So wait... you have to register with the state only? I thought you had to go through the IRS and the state?

When you register with the state, you get a federal tax ID number (it's a nine digit number). You don't have to file anything separately to get tied in with the federal government. If your in city limits, you will also need to obtain a business license to conduct business inside city limits. I didn't do this the first time though, as I was running things out of a spare room in my apartment. If your going to even think of placing any signs up it would be a good idea to file the business in the city. I registered my biz in Yakima, but due to the fact I was a sole propriatorship and had no employees, they didn't make me pay a fee. Your situation might be different than mine though. Mine was a service business, yours would be a manufacturing/product business. Maybe one of those dummies books might help, lol. As for the business/product name, perhaps other members could provide their input? What about CSRI for Chino's short ram intake? I'm still playing around with label layout and fonts. The right font makes all the difference.
