New Yaris Owner!!!
So happy to have found this forum! I just bought a 2009 Black Sand Pearl Sedan with power package last weekend and I love it! If you're in so cal and looking to buy, I highly reccommend Hamer Toyota and Steve Denson was the salesman who gave me a great deal. He was very patient, not pushy, and extremely helpful.
My only complaint with my Yaris so far is with freeway driving. Any time I get up to 60-70mph the car seems to sway a bit from side to side. Has anyone else experienced this? If so is there a solution you've found that works well? Sorry if this has been discussed already. Would be grateful if you could point me to the right topic if it has. Thanks! |

welcome!! If the car seems to sway a bit, it may be because the car is light. Just tapping my foot on the ground makes the car shake ;)

Welcome, congrats, and, yes, these little cars will move around more on you compared to larger, heavier cars. They are much more effected by cross winds.

Brand new, it feels a little twitchy. It'll get better during break in.

Thanks
Thanks for the warm welcome! I've only owed big American cars in the past and never really experienced that sway except in really strong winds. Anyway, glad to know there's nothing wrong with my car.
Don't get me wrong though, I Love my Yaris. Most days I can't wait to get off work just so I can drive home! |

Congrats! Yeah I agree with it being normal to sway. My car is all over the place when up to speeds of 70+ , from cross winds to uneven road surfaces.

welcome! we have local "meet and eats" once a month, keep an eye on the socal area so u can join us!
that sway issue has come up a lot.. solution: lower veh with springs and add a rear sway bar.. that will reduce that issue and make the car safer to drive in general

Congratulations!
The first time I drove my Yaris in the wind, I thought for sure the wind was going to push my car off the bridge! you might want to do search for "sway bar" or "wind" and you'll see how people have handled the problem. My old car handled quite differently so there was a transition period after I bought my Yaris (part of me wasn't sure I wanted to keep it during the first few days, to be honest) and I had a few questions. The forum was real helpful with that. I'm proud of my little Yaris now, with her limitations. by the way, cute name "YarIScool!" |

Welcome to YarisWorld and congrats on your purchase. I have a 3dr in the Black Sand as well and I had to get used to driving in crosswinds. The day that I drove mine off the lot it was very windy, 20-30mph crosswinds, and I quickly decided to find an Semi to get on the leeward side of until I got used to it.
Now it's not so bad but I still have a little bit of issues with the grooved highway pavement that TxDOT loves putting down when they resurface portions of the highway. I'm planning on getting a sway bar and maybe even a front tower brace once Obama sends me my bailout package. :) As for rain, I've had no problems driving in the rain and hitting large puddles that can build up in the right hand lane. My 3dr only weighs about 2250lbs and I add another 230lbs to that but it's a blast to drive, it corners pretty well on the factory tires and it accelerates well. In the month and a half that I've had mine, I've only had 1 time when the front end lost traction in the rain but I was pushing the car hard around an exit ramp corner and it only slid for a couple of seconds. The car never felt unstable or felt out of control and continued around the corner, the front end just wasn't gripping as well and as soon as I let off the gas, traction came back and I was still in the middle of the lane. Keep the shiny side up, S.R. |
