What.

I'm mad at my bank, Sallie Mae, and the Department of Education.

Student loans. Just so many stupid things with my banks online bill pay.

Since the account number is the same on two of my loans, the bank sent the monies to the same place -- even though the address of my payee's are different, and go to two different entities. (One loan was taken over by the Department of Education, and the other stayed with Sallie Mae.) The bank's response, "Well, it is the same person right? The account numbers are the same!" No. No it is not. That took two days to sort out, without any help from the bank...

Then I send out another payment -- this one doesn't have account number problems like the others. Well, Sallie Mae claims they never got it. And I had also made an additional payment on top of the monthly payment, a very large one which I am very upset about. So the bank is going to investigate it; they said that they sent the funds and will take care of this mishap.

I hate having 8 different bills to pay each month and track.

You can only consolidate like loans. I have a mix of private and federal loans. Also, if I consolidate, it screws up the loan repayment program my work offers -- and I could really use the monies they're offering. I would if I could.

Switch to a local bank. They work better and have a much less "F**k You" attitude, as your buisness really does matter to them.

Sallie mae is horrible. Impossible to get through on the phones, they don't respond to e-mails, and they refuse to send any kind of confirmation or reciept of payment.

I can't wait till my loans are paid off, I want nothing to do with sallie mae.

The one good thing about them... is that most of my loans are consoladated at like 2.8%, they sent me a letter the other day saying if I go paperless they will drop it to 1.8%.

Yes, always go with a local bank if possible.

I f#%#%$ HATE Sallie Mae!

I've been paying them for 3 years already... Worst customer service in existence.

Not only that, but me being a non-US customer, I can't even use their website to take care of payments, so I actually have to call them once a month. Which would be fine, if they didn't actually charge for it... I pay like $50 extra just on the call every month!

I hate them so much....

That sucks TK. Really bad. Is Sallie Mae charging you, or just making the long distance call itself?

I do bank local. I mean, I can't complain much about them as a business; they are bending over backwards to help get Sallie Mae to stop wasting time and post my payments -- or say that they have received them at least. It's just their online baking/payment system is horrible.

Who's? The local bank or Sallie Mae's? I have my current student loans through them. Other than them not receiving letters I send to them or answering questions on the phone, I haven't had an issue with them. I make all my payments to them online and have not yet had a single payment not be posted to the account within the 4 business days it lists.

Oh, on a side note, if you do a lot of traveling (hotels/flights/rentals) or know of someone who does and does all their booking online, or if you do a lot of shopping online, an idea that will help you pay down the debt to Sallie Mae is UPromise. I use it. I have my dad using it on my behalf. He travels for work all the time. He does all his booking online. It's just a matter of registering the credit card with UPromise. Depending on the retailer/provider, you receive a certain percentage of the purchase/fee. The money is transferred quarterly (as long as there is $20 accumulated through UPromise). Between me and my dad, we average about $560 a year through UPromise. The way I see it, you're spending the money anyway, so why not have it work for you?

My banks online payment system, not Sallie Mae's.

I don't travel, but did consider the UPromise. Just didn't work for me.

I'm the one who needs to call them. They've never called me, even after repeated requests.

I wanted to get UPromise set up for me, but non-US citizens like myself are out of luck.

keep up.... we're talking student loans.... not car loans. I consolidated when loans were about as low as they will get in my life time. 2.8%
