Porn
Where is it coming from and are we (YW community) going to do anything about it? Oh and I'm not a porn hater but I don't think it is appropriate here.
This person joined today "LenAwataNer" and has posted nothing but porn....WTF. We have people passing out YW cards, people telling folks about Vendors supplying accessories, and folks outside that sell things like tires etc that visit here....and they see this....IMO not a good signal to send. I thought it happened again haha.
Well what could we do? Not let any new members enter? :S It's a very hard thing to block spam. I think it's just some asshole being what he is, an asshole. |

It is not that hard to restrict what new members post. I do it on another forum and it has prevented 99.9% of this type of spamming from occurring. All it takes is to adjust the settings for new members, requiring approval to join and reviewing of new posts until they've shown they are here for the right reasons.
Anyhow, the Internet is full of porn; I can never fathom why people feel the need to splash it all over other forums... Cheers! M2 |

Oh and the porn was also a bunch of links to some other sites, so it was really spam with a layer of porn on top

I don't understand the logic behind spammers and hackers. The Internet is a wonderful thing, as shown by all the great information that can be found on this forum. Collectively, it makes us all smarter; but there are always a few who want to bring the entire group down to their level... Cheers! M2 |

True, but as I stated there are a variety of measures that can be taken to greatly reduce the chances of it happening. Since we employed the temporary restrictions on new members over at the forums where I am a moderator, we haven't had one incident of spam or such.
Moderation of the first couple of posts for new members is not that much to ask. It allows those in charge to make sure the person's intentions are in line with the forum. After a few good posts, we lift the moderator review restriction and it is happy sailing from there on out. But at least one every month or so I end up deleting someone's account as the only reason they joined was to post porn or some kind of political rabble. It's kinda like having a restricted driver's license. You can still drive, but there has to be someone with you. Once you can pass your test and have proven yourself, you are good to go on your own! Cheers! M2 |

It also greatly lessens the rate of new memberships, a stat that we have done wonderfully with considering this is a tiny little eency weency niche in the enthusiast community.
I'm trying to spin it positively... if it were my site I'd probably do the same thing, but we're just mods. This one is for the admins. |

If you guys can restrict pictures to new members for at least the first couple weeks or...with a certain amount of posts (legit ones) posted, then only after that can they post pictures~

I thought on forums like these the administrators had the option to block certain words from being posted.... maybe that would help.... then again there are a lot of creative ways to get your point across.
