Changed Mind About Order!

Okay, so after much agonizing and vacillation and a nationwide self-search for a stripped-down '09 Yaris, I've put the deposit down on a somewhat "loaded" '09, they've located one, I've signed to pay the rest for it when it arrives (transported from another dealership), but I'm not happy.

The more I think about all the bells and whistles I "had" to get as part of the various add-on "packages," the more unhappy my frugal self is. I'm paying more than I want for a bunch of stuff I don't need ($150 floor mats; "heavy-duty" heater - is the other a "wimpy" heater??? - an "extra-large" windshield washer fluid receptacle... And I'm paying for a rear defroster TWICE - once in the convenience package and again in the all-weather guard package; huh???). In short, I feel ripped off.

It arrived last night (I've already driven by the dealership and seen it; cute, but "loaded); are not open today (Sunday). Am considering going in tomorrow morning and telling them I've decided I want an '08 instead of the '09 (it's $1k less). Maybe I could even get one without all these gadgets (rear MP3 player audio outlet... Puh-leez). Yes, the '09 is being delivered, but surely they can sell or trade it, and surely there's an '08 out there (in fact, I know there are within the state; this one came from Nashville).

Those of you with car dealer/dealership experience, how likely am I to be killed on the spot or yelled at or actually hit? Or might I be successful??? Am I legally bound now to buy that particular '09, or just "some car" with my deposit already paid? I AM buying, and I am buying from them, but want to be happy; isn't that what the buyer should be?

"The customer is always right"...

And, hey, it's an otter's prerogative...

You NEVER sign for something before you see it. I ordered my 08 and put a $500 deposit down on it but did not have to sign anything. If they asked you to sign something then they are trying to rip you off. You could ask them for an 08 but more than likely they will keep your $500. With the 0% sell going on in some parts of the country on the 08 Yaris more than likely you will not be able to find a dealer with one or that is willing to give it up to another dealer. But in the end, you made a BIG mistake by signing for something being seeing it.

I think the only true stripped down Yarii were the '07s? After that so many people wanted the power windows, etc...that most of the cars since have come that way. I like my stripped down '07....but wouldn't have stressed if it DID come with some options.

it does sound like you're getting ripped a bit..

but look at it this way. a loaded yaris will be worth more in 10 years than a strippy ;)

The "extra weather guard" package should have never been an option. Having said that, quit being a cheap bastard and pay the $150 for it.

Mats on the other hand, tell the dealer you expect those for free, particularly if you're paying invoice.

Looking for an 08 is tough and you only can choose what is left over. What is left over may be the wrong color or wrong options.

The all weather package also has a better starter.

I think the all-weather package is the only add-on I have on the car. The floor mats are in there, too...but not sure I ever considered those an option, even if they really are.

It depends on what they call it. If they call it a "deposit" then NO, they don't have to give it back although most dealers will.

Did you sign a contract or was this just a deposit receipt?
If a contract, better read the fine print. I think on the bottom of mine there was
something about if you don't buy it they would get 8% or something. Not sure if
that is legal, but I was buying the car anyway.

My '07 was totally stripped, I'm still happy, i don't need the power this and that...call me cheap, but i'm just down w/ the basics.

My salesman told me that the All-Weather Guard package was standard for the Midwest
but that areas such as Florida didn't need it. Stargate YARlantIS, does your's have
that package in it?

My buddy has a 2007, and since we carpool, I was able to ride in his car quite often.
I am sold on the heavy-duty heater, even though Wisconsin may not get as cold
as our friends to the north get.

Power options weren't a high priority for me, but I am glad I have them even though
I might have paid more than for the basic model. My buddy is a little jealous of the
keyless entry, too.

I'm looking at the buyer's agreement (I didn't think twice about signing; have NEVER bought a car new and knew nothing about it); where it says, "Special order or locate non-refundable deposit____Initials," there are no intials; next to that is "deposit" with the $500 noted. In the landlord business, "deposit" is (potentially) refundable, but "fee" is not; this doesn't say "fee" and the "non-refundable" section is NOT initialled. So?

Yup..in fact, when I got mine in August of '08..the salesman at Carmax said the All Weather Package was the ONLY option available to me. I didn't care...I wanted a flipping Yaris!!

It was, in fact, from Beaman's... Everything but the power package and kitchen sink... Meterorite Metallic 3-door liftback automatic...

Anyone know anything on this legal question re: the deposit?
