I still have never gotten one. A friend of mine just got on a jury though. He text's me with all the updates. It's a murder case, seems interesting.

I loved my jury duty. It was super interesting. It was about negligent activity at a small water treatment plant. We put the guy away for some years.

I'm pretty sure I'd never make it past selection...law student...

I suspect that if I were a lawyer, a law student would be the last person I wanted on a jury, just enough knowledge to be dangerous

If you don't really want to do it, there's nothing to make you. The mail notification is not certified, so they can't prove you even received it. I actually showed up to mine, though, and the didn't pick me... something about being a raggedy-assed greasy-jeaned biker turned them off. My boss showed up to her jury summons in her pajamas and slippers.. they didn't pick her either, lol.

If you are self employed it hurts. I work for a company and welcome the opportunity to take a paid day off work.

My neighbor just became a rookie officer with the LAPD. No more jury duty for me.

I've never received a notice for jury duty but would love the opportunity.

I got my first one ever a few months ago, AND I got selected to sit on a jury. It wasn't so bad. Honestly, I'd rather get called than NOT get called. It's a complete waste of time to go there, sit and wait all day and go home... all for nothing. I got to be a part of "the process" for what it's worth.

And it was even a somewhat intersting (though pretty obviously open-and-shut) case. Stupid old woman hopped up on pain killers and alcohol got pissed at her boyfriend and tried to get in her car and drive. Backed into her neighbor's car across the street! When the cops came out to investigate the accident, she was obviously stoned so they did a DUI investigation and charged her with that. We got to see the video... it was O-B-V-I-O-U-S. That coupled with the lab results and eye-witness testimony... it was a no-brainer.

On the one hand, I felt sorry for her as all she did was back out of her driveway. But, on the other hand, if she HADN'T hit her neighbor's car, I shudder to think what could have happened if she actually made it out onto a busy street! Ultimately, the law was very clear. She was driving under the influence. And she wasted a lot of taxpayer money paying for her defense.

Anyway... Go, play the game... make the most of it.

So what was her punishment?

Wow, guess it works differently in the states?

Up here, jury is a no-choice selection, and not showing up is a criminal offense.

And based on my friend's luck, they WILL track you down if you don't show up!
