On holiday in Australia, and I rented a Yaris
So I'm currently in Brisbane, Australia, for two weeks, and have rented a Yaris to get around.
It's a blue 3dr hatch, in manual, but I didn't realize it was a 1.3 litre 2NZ-FE till I drove out of the airport parking lot and felt that the acceleration was a bit leisurely! After a bit, I pulled over and checked the build plate on the door frame - yes, a 2NZ! I think with the 3dr having a longer door than the 5dr that I drive back home, it slams shut with a louder, tinnier sounding clang. Despite being nearly identical in design to my Thai built Yaris, the Japanese built Australian Yaris seems better put together, and even the gear stick felt less notchy. The digital dash board is cool too. I'm going to have to visit some wreckers to see if I can bring one of these back home, just do be different from the rest. Lots of places to go in the coming two weeks up and down the Queensland Coast, and I'm looking forward to my adventures with this car!

Excellent! I think you are the first here to experience Yarii from 2 different production locations!
Have a great vacation!

I actually wasn't aware that there were Yaris's built in Thailand.
BTW, outside of the US, people seem to call vacations "holidays". So what is a holiday called (such as Christmas, ect.). The word "holiday" is derived from "Holy Day" which is one designated day reserved for celebration or remembrance of something. "Vacations" are periods of time we take off from work or school for rest, leasure, fun, ect. They are two totally different things. Sorry for the off topic observation. But can someone ouside of the USA explain this? |

My first drive was in a Gen 1... I rented a Yaris (Echo hatch) back in 2003 to tour Eastern Spain around Barcelona. Was a good little car... a little underpowered... didn't think to look under the hood back then... probably a 1.0L or 1.2L or something.
Anyhow... enjoy your trip! Australia is awesome!

When I was in Quebec in 2006, I rented a 3-cylinder Echo for a week, I think. Does that make sense that it had 3 cylinders or is my memory bad?
Whatever it was, it was pretty peppy.

Hmmmm, I don't think so... North America only ever had the 4-cyl 1.5L variant.

very good question, actually, I never thought about it until you brought it up... it's just the way the language evolves in different places, really... Like for example, why do Americans call that sport "football" when the foot rarely ever touches the ball? which is not even ball-shaped? rename it to "handoval" please!

Like Thanksgiving...when do other countries celebrate Thanksgiving? In Canada our Thanksgiving is the 2nd Monday in October. The Americans celebrate theirs the last Thursday in November (Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends!!). What does England or Thailand do...do you even celebrate Thanksgiving?
