FINISHED PICS ADDED - To those who painted their center trim pieces:

How did you take apart the air vent directional things to paint? Did you leave them in place, or take them completely apart?

I just painted my temperature control knob bezel thing - that was easy. 150 grit, 400 grit, 2 coats of primer, about 5 coats of flat black, looks good so far.

Emblems are up next!

Hm, when I took my dash apart, the air vents came off with that dash piece. Well, I've got a lot of fiddling to do lol.

Here's a teaser pic so far. I can't wait to get my 2009 black climate control knobs - gonna look hot!

Note: Be very careful when pulling apart the air directional control things. They have these tiny little inserts into a linkage, and they break off very easily...

So here's some pics. This is what I did for all the pieces I'm painting.

Took some 150 grit sand paper, and scuffed everything up really good.

Took some 400 grit sand paper and made it all really smooth.

Two coats of primer. Then 5+ coats of flat black (I lost count I did so many).

Also, have a pic of the easiest way to paint those damn little air vent things. I hate painting small things.

Oh, and I was able to epoxy on the little piece I broke off. haha

Can you go straight to 400 grit and skip the 150?

If you have like 9,000 sheets of 400 and a case of booze... It's gonna take a long time to scuff it up enough.

Now that you're painting the radio trim, when get your new HU and HAM radio, you can make your own 180mm opening one with some bondo.

Are you going to seal it with anything?

After seeing the effort you've put in kinda makes me glad I got a Canadian RS and saved myself the trouble. Everything is already black.

I thought about it a lot, and I think I actually like it better being wider. The bondo will have to be somebodies elses project, lol.

I'm not sealing it. I like it all flat and raw looking like that. About 10 coats of paint, I think it'll hold up... haha.
