They're quite unique looking. A modified one could look pretty bad ass done right.

This is a contender only if the quality has been increased by the brand!

I was driving the other day, passed our Kia dealer, and low and behold a new red Soul was out in front. I had to stop and check it out. It was nice, comfortable, very roomy, and quite functional looking. I was impressed, but not enough to consider buying it, untill I opened the hood...

That's when I saw 16V CRDi written on the valve cover, then I notice a cute little turbo mounted on the exhaust manifold right in plain view. What, I didn't know we were getting the turbo diesel here in the states??? I go find a salemen to inquire. No, he says, it's not for sale but is a European model sent here for publicity, we're not getting them untill march and they'll be gas only.

To bad, I would have purchased that 48MPG'er right then and there...

Bob- I've owned a 2000 Sportage since new and I've never had a problem with it. My only negative is that no one makes any aftermarket goodies for it

I sat in a Soul at the Portland Auto Show on Friday, and I was very impressed. It'll definitely be in the running when we're looking to replace our 1998 Civic.

the 1.6 motor has an interferance head if the belt snaps, which i have seen on this motor you are going to need some valves.

Almost every engine built today is interference should the belt break. In fact the only non-intereference engine I have ever seen was an old Volvo 4 cylinder built in the 80's (though I'm sure there are more around).

Why would this concern you? Just follow the scheduled belt change intervals, and should it break before the interval, the 100,000 mile warranty would cover it.

My 1998 Civic has an interference head; I think they're all still that way.

It's pretty cool but if I were to look at vehicles with the toaster style I'd go Scion. But that's just me.

I just don't like the current xB's size/engine. Too big, too thirsty for what I want.
