Aftermarket width

I want 15x5.5 alloy wheels for my Yaris. Does anyone know why aftermarket wheels come in wider widths? Do OEMs only provide the narrower width for better mpg?

aftermarket wheels come in wider widths so you can put wider tires and get better traction/handling.

Yes OEM wheels are narrower for better mileage and also for cost savings
