ok so me being stupid (hmmm seems to be my thing lately).....I sprinkle maybe 5 tablespoons or so give or take of AMDRO FIRE ANT KILLER in the 'about 2 month old' garden consisting of WATERMELON, CARROTS (MAYBE), TOMATOES, CORN, CUCUMBER, GREEN ONIONS, AND LIMA BEANS.
I then proceed to read the warnings: do not use around humans/animals do not ingest etc.... (IDIOT MOMENT CLIMAX) nothing has begun fruiting yet. we've been getting a LOT OF RAIN recently and I'm hoping it will rinse it and dilute it to safe levels.....possible? Is the entire garden a bust now? DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS? I FEEL COMPLETELY ASININE I can't believe I did this. Incase you didn't get the gist, this is my and my wife's first garden attempt and I think I screwed it up...... Last edited by Shroomster; 05-25-2009 at 10:08 PM. |

most foods in the grocery store have been sprayed at one point or another with pesticides before harvest, just not saturated with them. Just make sure to thoroughly wash your produce before preparing.
If you have more concern then you should call the makers of the "ant killer" and ask them about it. |

the call unfortunately will have to wait until tomorrow....and I'm thinking I might be able to uproot everything and till the garden (damn weeds)
but I don't know how well everything will take being uprooted (again) |

You'll be fine. That label refers to full strength. 5 tablespoons will be so diluted by the time your crops are harvestable.

Quote:
Amdro Fire Ant Killer contains 0.73% hydramethylnon, which is labeled for non-crop treatment. The LD50 rating on it equates to 9 pounds needing to be ingested by a 50lb dog to be fatal. It takes 2-4 weeks to break down, so as long as you're at least a month out from harvesting you should be fine. |
