Why I got out of a Yaris!
Now I love the yaris x a billion, but this reminds me why I got rid of it... even the fit did bad versus a mid size sedan crash.

Yeah I suppose. It's basically the same way with any vehicle vs a larger vehicle. Easy fix, ban larger vehicles lol.

Thats nothing, you should see what a pick-up truck can do to anything in general. Its just part of life.
My dad's F-150 was rear-ended by Ford Taurus. His chrome bumper was slightly bent and little scratches. The lady's Taurus? Well, her front end was now her dashboard. Moral of the story, pay attention to the damn road. |

Heres my question, do they calc. 40mph, is that each vehicle traveling at 20mph...creating an impact speed of 40mph per vehicle?
Or 40mph per vehicle with an impact speed of 80mph? impact speed is calculated that if both cars are at a constant, that it is equal to each vehicle crashing into a stopped object at the added speeds of both vehicles.

I am so sick of these videos.
It's common sense ... little car + smashed by bigger car = ouch There is no way around that. If I am driving an Escalade and get hit by a semi head on at 40mph, I am gonna go ahead and say I'm gonna feel it. It doesn't matter what you drive, if it's bigger it's going to f'n hurt when you get hit by it... which is why you need to pay attention to what the hell is going on around you when you're driving. Sure, you can't always control it but it doesn't mean that just becuase you're in a Yaris you're unsafe. My brother-in-law wrecked his Navigator and died after a two month stint in the hospital ... it can happen when you're driving big ass SUVs too. I wish people would stop trying to demonize these cars becuase they are "small". It's annoying. |

well said JBougie. There aren't anymore deaths in head-on accidents in Europe because they drive smaller cars.

I agree with prior comments. But, I took apart my Yaris' front end once, to tuck an HID ballast. All I can say, is that a basic frame rail, is close to none. Sort of scares you, but then again, as long as ur driving a car thats low in height and u get hit with a car much higher in height, you wont make it out.

I wasn't saying the Yaris was bad... I love the little guy to death. Just found those videos and was like wow. Seeing as most of the cars on the road today are mid size sedans. Also most accidents aren't head on collisions so the chances of this happening are rare. Also it's crazy to think that it would be legal to sell a car like the Yaris but a Nissan r34, s15, ect.. are illegal in the states due to safety, and when you bring a car over you have to change all sorts of bolts and safety equipment.
