Well yeah. I'm just wondering how a big tire ends up in the road without someone moving it. :p

Yup . My son had presence of mind to look left and right . There were vehicles on both sides , so he ran the tire over instead of hitting another vehicle

Autox and track days pay off ........

Too bad it was an '09 Yaris. If it was the older one, it would have been the perfect excuse to buy a genuine Vitz RS front bumper as a replacement.

he has to replace headlights and hood anyway, why NOT swap to RS front end?

Not many people will get out to move a tire on the interstate

I'm assuming the lights weren't broken and don't need replacement.

Otherwise its a fairly involving job, and the parts list for the full Vitz RS front conversion consists of the bumper itself, the plastic grilles, and the foglights. In his case he'd need pre-09 headlamps as well.

Atleast your son ran into the tire and didn't run OVER the tire, like I unfortunately did not too long ago. Tore off the black bottom plastic engine protector cover, threw the alignment for a major loop, dented the auto trans pan to living hell and left a small chip out of the bottom of the front bumper. The only funny part was bracing for the impact and then watching in my rearview mirror only to see the tire literally shoot up into the air pretty high. That gave me a good chuckle for a few seconds until I came back to reality about what damage was done. Thank god that it was a rimless tire...

He did run over the tire . The tire exited just behind the driver's door causing a two fist size dent to the rocker panel

Somehow the tire I ran over went all the way down the middle of the car and came out the rear end, shooting out up into the air lol. Didn't dent the exhaust pipes or anything, just the auto trans pan was caved in. So much so that it crushed the auto trans fluid filter.

Rule of thumb (for me anyway ) , if its under 100 lbs and not a person RUN IT OVER . I've seen many peeps swerve for a squirrel or rabbit and end up with thousands of dollars of damage if not totaled .

I almost hit an ELK in Cherokee last year . Those things are MASSIVE

There was at least a 12' ladder in the middle of 494 (one of biggest interstates here in the Twin Cities) and I almost hit it. It was the beginning of rush hour and people were darting left and right at the very last second and there were cars on both sides of me; I locked it up and luckily the car to my left was going fast enough that it was perfect timing, I jerked to the left as soon as I saw the bumper of the other car and just missed that damn ladder by feet.

I called the state patrol and let them know they needed to get that thing out of the road before someone got killed; that thing was no joke.

I am very glad your son was OK; and thank goodness he didn't just instinctively go to one side or the other and caused a really bad wreck with another vehicle.

A moment of silence is in order for your Yaris... lol :)

Actually a few years ago I was driving a NEON (gasp) and a pickup truck a few vehicles in front of me had a load of tires in the back. It hit a pothole on the interstate (remember, this is Oklahoma) and out comes a tire hopping down the road like the Easter Bunny . I swerve over 2 lanes to miss it and it hits the car behind me.
