Almost Busted
Tooling down a country road and suddenly "out of the blue" the detector went off. At first I did not see them but reacted quickly just the same. I was only doing about seven miles above the limit, quite safe with respect to reaction time and prevailing traffic (almost none). I managed to drop down to about three miles below the limit before the detector shut down.
I probably "broke the lock", not giving the Trooper enough time to get me speeding. I was going to wave at the Trooper out of respect - they did a fine job of hiding - but decided that discretion was the better part of valor. Besides which, in the oncoming lane was a very big RV, who was obviously speeding. Good hunting, Sir! Spent the next four or five miles looking everywhere for the Man. They started a tactic called "Centipede" years ago, stacking up Staties a few miles apart on a road, to catch people who get "cocky". The moral of the lesson - if you're not going to ride at the speed limit, watch your twelve and six. Keep your detector on to "max" and be quick. Don't go too fast either, because if you break the lock above the limit the Man just might feel like taking you down anyhow. Gene |
