Are these for the track only? Or for the street as well?

If for the street, what are your needs in that department?

you are comparing apples and oranges man. The R888 is a track tire, not supposed to be used on the street alot. some guys will drive to and from an event, and thats fine, but they are not daily driving tires. the star specs are great daily drive tires. i use them now, they are pretty damn grippy. if you havent done alot of track driving, go with the star specs. street tires are more forgving. if you are doing track only, you can get the R888's.

The Star Specs are a great tire that will do well on the track and still last long and handle well for daily driving. I personally prefer the Kumho Ecsta XS for my autocross tire, but they are very similar performers. I think the Star Spec might do a bit better in wet traction, the XS's are stickier at the track. Similar price, too.

i am curious to compare the two. one has the advantage of gearing with the shorter side wall, while the other has an increase in overall width. i read an interesting article once about how there are alot of cars that max out at a certain tire width. i need to find it and read it again to figure it out, but there may not be a difference if any at all in terms of grip. if thats true, then the 195 would have the advantage in terms of performance. but if the 205 truely does help with grip and cornering speeds greater than the advantage of the gearing, than the 205 is the right choice.

how do you know? lol no idea but buy both and try... apparently i am in theory mode today.

How about the Yokohama AO48's and AO50's for r-compound tires?

I'm not sure if it's available in the US but the Bridgestone RE55's are pretty good (had them in my other car) but have now been replaced by the RE11-S

the AO48R's suck... my friend with an M3 was faster on his Michelin PS2 street tires than his AO48R's.

i dont think we get the AO50 yet
