2010 Yaris Hatch...

I went to the Toyota dealership today. Test drove a 2010 Yaris (Manual) w/ no power windows, locks, etc. Pretty much a base model.
With $1K down, $800.00 rebate. It comes out to roughly $240.00 a month for 60 months (0% financing).
How does the $240.00 a month sound???

$1000 + ($240 x 60) + $800 = $16,200.
It's $16,200 OTD if there was no rebate.
I paid $16,800 OTD for power package + remote keyless entry + auto trans, and that was MSRP.
Yours sounds like more than MSRP.
It's hard to tell without knowing what it comes with, but it at least should have power package for that price.

The problem I have with car shopping is that car dealerships act like it's 1998 and they are selling S.U.V.'s every 5 minutes. Essentially, I am buying the car for M.S.R.P. minus $800.00. $240.00 is a "do-able" monthly payment. There is a good chance I am going to go for it. I HATE CAR SHOPPING!!!

Don't be fooled by the payment number, multiply it and see what you will be paying at the end of your term

If it really *IS* the flat base model (no fog lights, no power windows, and no 60/40 split rear seat indicates this) then the MSRP is only $13405, including destination and delivery.

$1000 down, $800 rebate, you should be paying $194/month for a 60-month 0% APR loan. Full stop. Or $207 roughly if the rebate turns out to be a sham. Dealership cost on such a stripper-5-door is $12772, so that'll still net them $633 if it's a true rebate from Toyota for the sale.

www.edmunds.com is your friend for verifying prices, BTW.

5dr or 3dr?

I think what a lot of people are assuming when they say that the price is too high is that it's a 3dr model. If it is a 3dr, then yes, I would agree, the price is too high (I got my 2009 3dr manual LB, but with power package and cold weather package, out the door pricing was $15400, approximately, monthly was $242, but I didn't take the 0% financing because I needed mine stretched out over a longer period to have the lower rate, I went with 7 years, hey, I can always refinance through my credit union to get a much lower rate; I think with the 60 months/0% financing, the monthly was more around $280?).

If it's the 5dr LB manual tranny, base model (no power options), then I would say that pricing sounds at least a little closer to being right, but still a little too high given that the starting price that's listed for the 2010 5dr LB is $12655 (per Toyota's website listing MSRP's).

5-door adds a total of $300 to the base MSRP. That's it.

Over a 60-month 0%-APR loan, that's $5/month.

the rebate benefits both parties ( dealer reimbursed by TOYOTA ) . So you should be able to get more of a discount from the dealer . Say anywhere from $ 250 to $750 . Depends on the number of YARII on their lot , how long the car has been sitting around ( manufactured date on drivers side door I pillar ) , and their being generous . GOOD LUCK

I'd say find the invoice price of the car, from edmunds, or kbb.com, or nada.com. You should not be paying too much over invoice with the current economy. And do not negotiate by payments, negotiate the final price first.
