xm antenna mounting location

Hey folks,

I just got a new head unit for my 2008 yaris hatchback. I've ordered the pioneer xm unit that goes with it. However, my questions if where to best mount the antenna? I'm nervous that the reception is going to be awful if I mount it on the dash inside the cabin. However, I don't really like the look of mounting it on the roof.

Have any of you folks done crazy stuff like mount the antenna under the hood or some other sort of hidden away place, that still gets great reception?

Thanks in advance...

You could probably get away with mounting it on the dash of a Yaris because the windshield has a steep slope. It would be worth a try because it would be the easiest place to put it then if it didn't work you could move it easily. The antenna will not pick up through metal but it will go through plastic and glass. XM and Sirius both recommend the roof or trunk lid but XM is less picky than Sirius as far as antenna placement is concerned.

I like where your head is at, Palmer. I guess I could always try the dash and then move it if it didn't work out.

What about under the hood somewhere? Is that an insane idea?

It won't work through the hood. I haven't had mine apart yet but if it would fit you could put it under the plastic piece below the windshield wipers.
