Weird/slow engine revving?
Hey all,
My engine has been acting weird lately, sometimes I can weld my foot to the floor and get ABSOLUTELY nothing for up to 5 seconds. It ONLY happens when I floor it, not when i put my foot down slowly. This is the same with the 10% UD pully on or off. I have had an oil change which didn't help this problem. It's not that the engine revs slowly, its that it doesn't seem to even register that I'm pressing the gas at all, it just stays at precisely the same rpm for a few seconds, then finally spools up as quickly as ever. This doesn't happen all the time, but it has happened in several different scenarios... whether its wet/dry/cold/hot/engine cold/engine hot. I have also checked my A/F sensor and followed the A/F sensor cleaning DIY(BTW, i have AFE intake). I have checked the tension on the belt, checked the gas pedal (especially in light of recent toyota news LOL) Any ideas? time for a dealer checkup? If I can't fix the problem easily, I am probably going to take it to a dealer, this is beginning to get dangerous on freeways sometimes when I try to merge and i'm just sitting there putting along while faster cars are approaching.

The ECU is adaptive and the Yaris is drive by wire throttle. If you drive slowly, the ECU will adapt to that style of driving. Then if you floor the gas, it will seem like it's not responding. If you drive spiritedly, there will be no delay in throttle response.

... the ecu won't ever adapt to not respond for 5 seconds, plus if nothing was wrong, it would act that way all the time, not just sometimes.
... he said he cleaned the MAF anyway, my auto on certain hills gets retarded. Not quite 5 seconds, but still pretty close to what you are describing. going to the dealer right now, unless you can reproduce it on command, will be a waste of time. They got recalls to do. |

I'm pretty sure I can produce it on command, and yes, it might just be that the auto tran is retarded and doesn't downshift to allow the car to accelerate at speed/with a lot of weight
