I discovered the 2010 Yaris HB has the best feature ever to exist in Auto History

I had a soda sitting in the cupholder and was driving 3 hours and
hadn't taken a sip in a while. So I go to grab a drink and lo and behold
my mind was thinking 'meh, it'll be warm, no big deal, this is what happens' but instead it was damn cold.

With A/C on, the front air vents easily direct to a soda can placed in the holder and can keep
the beverage very chilled on a hot day.


The Yaris cup-holders are essentially chillers. I have never owned or ridden in a
vehicle that could chill can o beverage.

Can you believe this feature is what the reviewers HATED??? Their reasoning was this: In the summer, your coffee will be cold, and in the winter your soda will be hot. No, they didn't even THINK of this the other way around did they?? Asswipes.

I've managed to chill an entire liter bottle of water this way, even after it's sat in the hot sun, in the car, with the windows up for hours. Honestly I get a little sad face when I have to use a car that doesn't have this feature, and I want a warm or chilled beverage via the cupholder.

Yes, generally I think this is a great feature, though on occasion I have a cold drink in cold weather or a hot drink in the summer. Re-aiming the vent a bit will keep the air blast off of the drink in those situations.

I don't really drink hot drinks, so I actually do drink cold drinks when its cold, but as yaris hilton pointed out, shutting or reaiming the vent takes care of the problem. I guess it really doesn't get too cold out here though.. lol

I do love it though. Keeps my ice from melting, watering down my soda, for another half hour easy most days

I don't let people eat or drink in my car (paranoid), but still, I'm really surprised that people didn't like this feature in reviews, I mean come one, if you don't want your drink by the vent, use the cupholder in the center console. It's what it's there for..

Yup, I've either turned or shut off the vent if it has a negative effect on my beverage of choice. Usually a drink in the center cupholder also has a plus: keeping my (very little) dogs in the back seat.

Curious, is the Yaris the first production vehicle with cupholders behind the vents that can either heat or chill your drinks, or did someone else already to this?

Several cars have a similar feature available. Like the BMW 3 series. And i have seen many cars with cooled gloveboxes in the past.

IDK about you, but the head rests that go up and down is pretty nifty.

Not to be a hater or trying to be offensive or whatnot, but this is what I hate, as well.

When I have heater or A/C on, I turned them on because I need them. By placing something in a cupholder, a soda can or a coffee-mug EFFECTIVELY BLOCKS heater / AC, when I turned them on WHEN I REALLY NEED them.

I mean, I did not purchase this car so that it will keep my coffee warm or my soda can chilly. Surely it is nice to have your sodacan stay chilly in a blazing hot summer, but with the cost of HALF EFFECTIVE A/C? I will pass, because I am not really a big fan of asymmetrical feeling where one side of my face is hot like hell and the other side is nice and chilly, or vice versa.

No offense too but aren't there other holders to place your drinks in?
You have the choice not to use the one by the vents

Hm, usually my drinks are in a round container and the air just moves around the cup or bottle. The airflow is reduced from that vend a bit of course, but I also have 2 center vents which blow cold or hot.

yeah that's why I don't use that spot. all my waterbottles or sodacans go into the one right next to center console.

cant really use the one on the door panel because that's where the mapbook and other stuff goes into..

the only time I use the actual cupholder spot is when I have coffee cup...because they simply would not fit into any other cupholder spots lol...
